TILE TIPS FROM TILE KING

1. Tiling Your Bathroom:

Before installing tile on the floor or wall in your bathroom and shower area, you need to waterproof your surface. Tile King has a special 9240 membrane which will keep moisture from leaking into your substrate. First, clean the area thoroughly to remove all dust. Apply the special membrane liquid evenly with a roller, then smooth the membrane fabric over the area, removing all ripples or creases. Roller another coat of membrane liquid over the fabric. Leave to dry overnight. Once dry you can add your tile from the huge selection at Tile King but be sure to use Modified Thinset for extra strength.

2. Tile Grout:

We all have issues with grouting our tiles and keeping it clean afterwards. Forgot to buy the special spacers for installing your tiles? Find a popsicle stick - lay if=t on its side and it's just the right width to keep your spacing even. To give your grout a really good cleaning, try dipping an old toothbrush in bleach and scrubbing along the grout line to restore the original colour. Did you know you can change the colour of your grout? Tile King has a Grout Colour Kit in several colours which is an inexpensive way to change the look of your old tiles.

FYP: (Fix Your Place)

1: Quick Tips for Changing Cabinet Pulls and Knobs

Changing out the knobs or pulls on kitchen cabinets and doors can make a nice visual statement for a low cost. FYP has a huge selection of cabinet and drawer hardware to suit every budget and taste.
Here are a few pointers to keep in mind.
To remove old knobs or handles and replace them, loosen the screw on the back of the door that holds the old hardware in place, then remove the knob or handle. Measure the distance between the holes if more than one screw is used and make sure that your new hardware either fits the same holes or is slightly larget ato hide the old holes. To simplify placement of the holes for the new handle, ask FYP about a template that serves as a guideline for lining up standard holes at the side or bottom of the cabinet door. Mark and pre-drill your holes carefully. Before putting your new handle in place, fill any holes left by old hardware with wood putty, and paint or stain that area that area - The Paint Centre can match any colour to a small sample. Attach the new handles with screws VOILA! a stunning and low cost make-over.

2: Make your kitchen really cook

The kitchen is still considered the heart of the home. For a few extra dollars, you can replace the kitchen faucet set, add new cabinet door handles and update old lighting fixtures with brighter, more energy-efficient ones. FYP can help with all these make-overs. Visit the plumbing and lighting sections for choices to suit all budgets. And while you are checking out the lighting, change out those old light bulo new, energy efficient ones, to save you dollars on your electricity bill every month. Yes we have them at FYP too!

3: Let there be light

If you have boring recessed lights in your dining and living rooms, consider replacing one of the room's lights with an eye-catching chandelier. FYP offers a wide range of inexpensive, but nice-looking, ceiling fixtures. Add accent lighting instead of the two ordinary lamps that flank both ends of the sofa. Spotlights that plug into existing outlets can direct light to features you want to emphasize, such as art or plants. Adding a ceiling fan and light will not only add a distinctive look to your decor and additional light but will also assist with cooling your house - at a lower cost than airconditioning. FYP's lighting department has solutions for every situation!

4: Re frame your entry.

It's the first thing you, and your guests, will see. Repaint or refinish that front door. FYP has a good selection of doors in all materials to add some pizzazz to your entryway. If you have a basic steel front door that has gotten dented, consider replacing it with either another inexpensive steel door or a fiberglass, or wood grain door for a slightly higher cost. Next, visit our hardware department and replace that worn, flimsy little knob on your main entry door with a more substantial-looking handle-and-lock set choose from our wide selection at prices to suit every budget. A nice, big piece of hardware signals newcomers that this is a solid home. Then, visit our gardening section and you can find two large planters to place on either side of the front door, fill with a profusion of healthy plants. Look for foliage colors and blooms that complement each other and the colour of your decor.
